January: Feminism in 2013
Ongoing: We Can Stop It
Location: VariousPartner: Ashby Residential College
We will record PSAs (audio and video) of volunteers reacting to statistics about rape. These can be distributed through the HRL website and other means. We can have several recording sessions in different halls, depending on interest. This project is based upon the U.K.'s "We Can Stop It" campaign./
Date TBA: Contraception Conversation
Location: TBAPartner: Sonila Noorani, Public Health
This event will combine brief lectures with group discussion. We will discuss the history of the birth control pill and its impact on feminism and women's rights. We will connect that discussion to current issues of contraception availability. Our Public Health partner will share facts, stats, and best practices, as well as distribute a safer sex kit to participants.
Jan 31: What does feminism mean to me? Open Mic
Location: Maya Art Gallery, Tate St. (right next to the yogurt bar)Partner: Maya Art Gallery, Well Versed Xpressionz
We will host an open mic for students and community members to share their thoughts on feminism in their lives, to attempt to define feminism in 2013, and to riff on issues that connect to feminism. Light refreshments will be served.
February: Breaking Boundaries
Location: TBAPartner: TBA
We will have several programs, including a session called "Lily Ledbetter Act, Four Years In: Women, Work, and Equity." Other sessions are up to our RAs! This year Breaking Boundaries will focus on social boundaries of all kinds. We need RAs who will offer programming ideas and help put on the events. It would be great if we could get at least one volunteer from each building. We will discuss Breaking Boundaries during Pro Staff training and the Social Justice & Diversity Committee will share ways you can help. Please think of RAs you think might be good fits for this event.
