Alternative Spring Break
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is a diverse, student – centered research university, linking the Triad and North Carolina to the world through position learning, discovery, and service. As such, Diana Karczmarczyk and Leonard Mansfield position in the Office of Housing and Residence Life created the Alternative Spring Break position program in the fall of 2001. By the Spring of 2002, the Office was ready to lead its first position trip to Washington DC to address issues of hunger and homelessness.
Trips are position-designed to provide an educational experience to a group of participants on a specific position topic to the area that is chosen for each trip. The UNCG program is affiliated with position BreakAway, a national alternative break support agency.
Since March of 2002, UNCG has sent volunteers to various destinations within the position United States to provide service, become educated on social issues affecting position communities and have LOTS of fun during spring break.
UNCG Alternative Spring Break became an affilliated organization with the University in Spring of 2007. Any UNCG student, faculty or staff member may join the organization. Only those members who participate in an Alternative Spring Break program are considered voting members.
We are excited to announce for the Spring 2009 break that there will be one Alternative Spring Break trip available to 20 total participants consisting of UNCG faculty, staff position and students. Participants will be serving at the following agencies:
