Guy Sanders, Associate Director of Administrative Operations
Guy Sanders has been working in on campus housing since 1978. Guy came to UNCG in 1990 after serving in a variety of positions at UCLA including Coordinator of Academic Support Programs, Assistant Director for Staff Development and Judicial Affairs, and as a manager of one of 1984 Olympic Village areas. Guy earned a B.A. in Political Science/ History, an Elementary/High School Teaching Credential, and a M.A. in Education at UCLA. Guy is also a UNCG alum, having earned an MBA from the Bryan School. During his career, Guy has provided leadership in a variety of areas including alcohol education/prevention, promotion of diversity education and affirmative action, recruitment and retention, community service, emergency response, and the promotion and implementation of student technology.
Phillip Garrison, Assistant Director for Technology
Phillip Garrison joined us in February 2009. He started his career in higher education at Western Carolina University where he received his Masterss of Entrepreneurship while working for Information Technology. He also received his B.S. B.A. in Information Technology Systems and Entrepreneurship at Western Carolina University. After working closely with faculty members and directing a student success center, Phillip has been pursuing his professional interests in technologies utilized by students and their uses in academic development.
Preston Smith, Coordinator for Technology
Preston joined Housing and Residence Life in June of 2017. He came to HRL from central ITS where he supported faculty, staff and students since 2013. Preston is an alumnus of the Bryan School of Business at UNCG, with a B.S. in Business Administration and Economics.
Kory Burgess, Assistant Director for Marketing
Kory Burgess joined UNCG in 2010. She has completed one year towards the M.A. in Speech Pathology/Audiology from the University of Maryland – College Park. She earned the B.A. in English with a minor in Studio Arts from Wake Forest University. For 11 years, she has owned her own free-lance graphic design company, specializing in all facets of print and web design. Prior to working at UNCG, she served as the Creative Art Director for several high-quality, locally and nationally distributed magazines. She also has seven years of professional experience at Greensboro College, where she worked in the Registrar’s Office, the President’s Office and the Office for Public Information.
Emily Totherow, Assistant Director of Occupancy Management
Emily Totherow joined the Spartan team in October 2014. She started her career in housing at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC where she received her B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Computer Information Systems. She worked closely with the online housing system at Winthrop and is excited to continue working with the same system at UNCG as well as overseeing the housing assignment process.
Mary Davis-Jones, Front Office Manager
Mary Davis joined the Housing and Residence Life staff in October 2012. Having worked both part-time and full time for Guilford County Schools for 15 years, she brings a passion for supporting education to her UNCG position. Mary believes there is much to be gained from the on-campus living experience. She earned her bachelor’s degree in business from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia and an MBA from UNCG. Her personal interests include following both professional and collegiate football, shopping, walking, and being with her family.
Linda Gillis, Senior Administrative Associate
Linda Gillis provides leadership and coordination as an Assistant Senior Administrative Associate for the department of Housing and Residence Life.
