A Roku isn't always required. Philo can also be accessed online using computers and mobile devices and Roku TVs. If you want to watch live TV on your television, you will need a Roku device. For your convenience, Roku devices can be purchased at the UNCG Book Store. Retailers that sell televisions, like Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Amazon, etc., also carry these devices.
SpartanTV is included in your housing costs so you are not paying any monthly fees.
No. Philo can only be used while you are connected to one of UNCG’s wireless networks, but HBO Go and Cinemax Go can be used off campus. This option will be available in September and instructions will follow.
Residents can only stream content on 1 device per person at a time.
  • Go back to mediaconnect and verify that the MAC address is correct and that the device was saved in your profile
  • Disconnect from power for 20 minutes and then turn it back on to try again. If you are still having problems you can call 6-Tech (336-256-8324) or put in a Fixt request at: go.uncg.edu/fixt
Closed captioning is only supported on specific browsers when watching on your laptop. If you are on a Mac you will need to use Safari. If you are on a Windows machine you will need to use Internet Explorer.
Go back into mediaconnect.uncg.edu and make sure you selected "enable Airgroup" when you registered the AppleTV.
The computer lab computers connect to the GCN network and in order to use Philo you must be connected to eduroam or UNCG-Wireless.
The Roku asked for your credit card information because you can purchase various channels from their store some of which cost money. To get live television from SpartanTV you will need to download Philo which is a free channel. You will not be charged for using Philo. The only charges you would receive is if you purchased something from the Roku online store.
Many desktops come equipped with wireless network adapters. If yours doesn't, you will need to purchase a USB Wireless Adapter. For best results, wireless adapters should be compatible with the 802.AC wireless standards and must support WPA 2 security protocols. These specifics should be clearly labeled on the box. Wireless adapters can be purchased at stores with large electronic departments like Best Buy, Walmart, Target, or Amazon.

All content is delivered to UNCG via satellite so severe weather events may cause intermittent problems on some channels.
