Chris Gregory Receives the Outstanding First Year Student Advocate Award

Chris Gregory, Assistant Director for Assessment and Operations, was selected to receive the 2020-21 Outstanding First Year Student Advocate Award.

Established in 2018, this award recognizes and celebrates the efforts and significant contributions of UNCG faculty and staff who provide leadership in creating a positive transition to college and a successful learning environment for first-year students.

In recognition of his achievements his nameplate will be installed in the Forney Student Success Commons. Chris will also be provided up to $1,500 in professional development funding for the 2021-2022 academic year to attend a conference related to student success or another higher education-related topic.

Supporting LatinX Students

Diana Roman, Coordinator for Residence Life in Spring Garden Apartments

Diana Roman, Coordinator for Residence Life in Spring Garden Apartments, presented a very well-attended and well-received “LatinX Experience in Higher Education” session for the Division of Student Affairs, about working with and supporting LatinX students. She shared vital research that is critical in understanding why the college enrollment for 18-24 year-old LatinX students was 27% in 2007.

Diversity and Inclusion Award – Diana Roman

This award recognizes a DSA staff member who has excelled and provided distinguished service in the areas of diversity and inclusion. Whether maximizing or creating an opportunity, this staff person prioritizes diversity and inclusion when supporting and engaging with students from various backgrounds and identities, when collaborating with colleagues and departments within the division, and/or when engaging in their own ongoing professional development. All staff are eligible for this award and more than one recipient may be selected.
