Connect to WiFi
THE Three WIRELESS NETWORKS
EduRoam: Secured Wireless
All UNCG faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to use the secure eduroam network. This network provides secure encryption with no bandwidth restrictions and no firewall restrictions beyond those already in place for security purposes. To obtain access to this encrypted network, wireless clients will be required to configure their laptops, phones, and tablets using Secure W2 authentication.
UNCG-ResNet: Entertainment wireless
UNCG-ResNet is available for entertainment devices used in the residence halls.
STEP 1: Go to go.uncg.edu/resnet
STEP 2: Log in with your iSpartan credentials
STEP 3: You will be given a passphrase that is used to connect your entertainment devices. When connecting your devices to UNCG-ResNet use this passphrase when you are prompted for a password. (Game consoles, Smart TVs, streaming devices, printers, smart hubs, smart lights, smart bulbs, etc)
UNCG-Wireless: Unsecured Wireless
This network is available for visitors to the UNCG campus. The UNCG-Wireless network is an open, unsecured network and access is restricted to basic Internet use only. This network also has an auto configuration tool that configures UNCG member’s computers for the eduroam Wireless Network. Guest registrations last for 8 hours and after that they will be redirected to the guest login page again.
- Note: Current UNCG network security policies prohibit students from installing and using their own wireless equipment.
- Review the Wireless Communication Policy for more information.
Connecting Other Devices
Connecting Smart TVs, Gaming Consoles, etc.
Residents have the option of wirelessly connecting media up to three devices like gaming consoles, Smart TVs, blu-ray players, Apple TVs, and Roku Boxes, smart lights, smart outlets and other smart devices.
To get started go to go.uncg.edu/resnet and log in with your iSpartan credentials. When you log in the first time you will be given a passphrase to use to connect to UNCG-ResNet. This is your personal passphrase to log in your devices to UNCG-ResNet.
Connecting A Desktop
Many desktops come equipped with wireless network adapters. If yours doesn’t, you will need to purchase a USB Wireless Adapter. For best results, wireless adapters should be compatible with the 802.AC wireless standards and must support WPA 2 security protocols. These specifics should be clearly labeled on the box. Wireless adapters can be purchased at stores with large electronic departments like Best Buy, Walmart, Target, or Amazon.
