Lock-Out Policy

If you are locked out of your room, or have lost your key, a Housing and Residence Life staff member is available to open your door. You will need picture identification in order to be assisted with a lock-out. Upon the third lockout in an academic year and for each lockout thereafter a $10 fee will be charged and placed on a resident’s student account. Lost key charges are as follows:

  • Suites and Apartments $75
  • Traditional Rooms $35.

More Lockout Locations

  • Residents of Jefferson Suites, Spring Garden, and Tower Village can get lock-out assistance from the Desk Assistants located in Jefferson Suites, Monday – Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Residents of the Quad (Bailey, Coit, Cotton, Gray, Hinshaw, Jamison, Shaw) can get lock-out assistance from the Desk Assistants located in the Quad, Monday – Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Residents of Lofts on Lee should call the 24 hour Lofts on Lee on-call duty cell phone number for assistance with lockouts.

Lost Key Policy

If you lose your key, you must come to the Housing and Residence Life office in Ragsdale/Mendenhall in order to receive a lock change for your door. This procedure is in place to ensure that the buildings security and safety are upheld to the highest standards. Once at lock change form is completed in the Housing Office the locks will be changes the following business day and all students assigned to that room will need to visit HRL with a valid ID to receive their new keys. Without picking up the new keys, students will not have access to their room unless they complete a lockout request with an RA.

Dropped Your Keys down the Elevator Shaft?

Occasionally a student will drop his or her keys down the elevator shaft. If this happens, we recommend that you wait until regular office hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday-Friday) to have these keys retrieved, to avoid extra charges. Depending on your location, after-hour key retrieval from the elevator shaft can cost up to $867 and this charge would be billed directly to your student account.

In the event that you have dropped your key down the shaft, please contact the Office of Housing and Residence Life during regular office hours (8 a.m.-5 p.m.) to report the issue and receive a temporary key until your key can be retrieved. After hours, contact your RA or CRL to report the issue and receive a temporary key until your key can be retrieved.
