Room Change and Room Swap
ROOM CHANGE AND ROOM SWAP
There are two ways students can request to change their housing assignment: Room Change and Room Swap.
- A Room Change occurs when a student is interested in changing rooms and does not have a person to switch with.
- A Room Swap occurs when students agree to switch rooms with each other. Students will need to send an email to HRL@uncg.edu and come to the HRL Office to finalize the switch.

- A Room Change occurs when a student is interested in changing rooms and does not have a person to switch with.
- Please monitor your email for the status of your request, we are not able to provide individual updates in any other form.
- SPRING 2026 ROOM CHANGE
- With the completion of the room changes initiated last Wednesday, January 14, we are moving into the third and last phase of no cause room changes. Beginning at 8 am on Wednesday, January 21, students may come to Housing in Ragsdale-Mendenhall and select a new room to re-assign themselves. This will be a first come-first serve process and will continue until 4:30 pm. Once students have identified a room, they will return to Housing on Friday, January 23 beginning at 9 am to pick up their new room key and begin their room change. The deadline for completing the room change will be 9 am on Monday, January 26. Special Note: Meal Plan Changes have ended.
- Going forward, students interested in making a room change will need to meet with the CRL in their building to discuss room change options.
Room Swap- Open
- A Room Swap occurs when students agree to switch rooms with each other. Students will need to send an email to HRL@uncg.edu and come to the HRL Office to finalize the switch.
- Students may be able to find other students wanting to switch rooms via the Artemis portal. Click on the Room Swap button to find a list of students who want to trade. Click on the Room Swap button to find a list of students who want to trade.
- HRL is not able to assist in locating a person to swap with other than providing the Room Swap Form.
- ex. Sarah is in Grogan 105 and wants to switch rooms with Grace in Grogan 107. Both Sarah and Grace must send an email to housing confirming their agreement to switch. Sarah and Grace will then come to the HRL Office in Ragsdale-Mendenhall to exchange keys and finalize the switch.
- Each student participating in a Room Swap must email hrl@uncg.edu with the following info:
- Name
- UNCG ID Number
- Hall and Room to which you are currently assigned
- Name of the Student with whom you want to switch rooms
- The other students Hall and Room assignment
- Due to time constraints, HRL is not able to provide individual status updates of requests.

Room change & Room swap FAQ
We reserve Freshmen housing for incoming students which limits the spaces you can see as an upperclassmen. We will receive cancellations throughout the next few months which will continue to open up new spaces on campus. We suggest frequently logging back in to view if any spaces become available.
We suggest completing a room swap. First, contact your current roommate and ask if they are willing to room swap. If they are willing to swap with your friend, then they both will need to send an email to hrl@uncg.edu.
No, spaces change and move quickly and there is not a way for us to monitor and contact students.
You are able to view any spaces that are available on Artemis. As HRL processes cancellations the spaces will be shown as available students via individual self-assign or room change. This process ensures that Artemis is accurate for the time and date of you logging in.
After you have submitted the form, you will be able to see the room swap information. Make sure to copy and save the link to come back and view the information.
