Top Ten Reasons to live in Campus Housing: It's easy to Make Friends and Connect!

We understand that choosing where to live each year of college can be challenging, but we’re here to help. Following are the top ten reasons we think you’ll love to join more than 5,700 fellow Spartans who live and learn together in campus housing.

It’s easy to make friends and connect.

When students live on campus, they meet each other, study together, and attend UNCG programs and events together. Most of all, they support and motivate each other. Freshmen live in traditional housing because it is the perfect place for new students to connect with other freshmen. They can even live with people who share a common interest in Special Interest Housing.

It’s convenient to everything.

Campus housing is close to events, classes, faculty, and to academic and support services. You’ll be within walking distance to classrooms, the Jackson Library, the Elliott University Center and book store, a variety of food locations, and campus recreational facilities.

Better Grades

Typically, students who live on campus do better academically than students who don’t. They also stay in college and graduate at a higher rate than students who don’t live on campus.

Extra Safety Measures

The residence halls are locked all day, every day. Residents must scan their Spartan ID cards to gain access to their assigned buildings. HRL professional and student staff members live in the buildings and check the buildings’ interiors. Along with campus police officers, they also check the buildings’ exterior entrances. To learn about how you can remain safe on and off campus, the best place to start is with the LiveSafe@UNCG app.

Student Leadership positions

You can join the Hall Council, the Residence Hall Association (RHA), and the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH). You can also join the HRL staff in a paid undergraduate position. See HRL Employment and Student Leadership for more.

Personal Development

Just by living on campus, you will learn problem-solving skills, you will learn about social justice, as well as sustainable practices to follow. You will be encouraged to take personal responsibility for your hall community, the campus community, and the Greensboro community. And you will have the support of trained staff to help you along the way. You will also become educated about ways you can volunteer on campus and in the community.

Caring staff

Caring, trained and professional staff care about each student’s experience at UNCG. Staff members also provide resources, support, and programming to enhance your college experience.
