Housing Application Deadlines
When you need to apply for housing on campus depends on what “type” of student you are. Are you a new freshman getting excited about your first year on campus, or a graduate student who already knows the ropes? When you know which category describes you, you will be able to select the deadlines and video instructions that apply to you, using the tabs below.


The housing deadlines are posted below, along with instructions and videos to help you through the steps to properly apply for campus housing.Please note: Due to the current status of the pandemic, this information is subject to change. Any changes will be sent through your iSpartan email account and will be updated on the website.

Current campus residents have two major dates to understand. The first is the PRIORITY Deadline. In order to have the best chance to assign yourself to the room that you want, it is important to meet the PRIORITY deadline. Meeting that will allow you to choose a room before students in all other categories. Meeting the Non-Priority deadline means that you won’t select a room until after all students who met the PRIORITY deadline have the chance to assign themselves to a room.

Feb. 8 - Feb. 24, 2021:

PRIORITY Deadline

To give yourself the best chance to get the room you'll want meet the PRIORITY Application deadline of Feb. 24, 2021, at noon (date extended from Feb 21!!):
  • Log into ARTEMIS, beginning at 10 a.m. on Feb. 8, complete the Returner PRIORITY Application, and agree to the terms of the 2021-2022 Housing Contract by noon on Feb. 24.
  • All Applications received between 10 a.m. on February 8 and noon on February 24 will be treated the same. THERE IS NO ADVANTAGE TO APPLYING EARLIER IN THE PROCESS. WE DO NOT USE APPLICATION DATE AND TIME FOR ASSIGNMENTS!
  • If you meet the priority deadline, you will be given a window of time to select a room, between Feb. 16 and Feb. 22.

The 2021-22 Housing Application is available online for Current Campus Residents (Returners) from Feb. 8 - May 31, 2021.

PRIORITY Processes

Feb. 16 – Feb. 22, 2021

Priority Returners Room Retention and Roommate Pull-in opens on Feb. 16, at 10 a.m., and closes at 4 p.m., Feb. 22.
  • Students living in Spartan Village, Lofts on Lee, Spring Garden, and Traditional Singles in Cone, Reynolds, Phillips/Hawkins, Moore/Strong, and Ragsdale/Mendenhall who complete a returner PRIORITY application can select to live in their current Spring 2021 assignment for the 2021-2022 academic year. They can also pull in a roommate or roommates to any spaces that will not be occupied by a current roommate between Feb. 16 and 4 p.m. on Feb. 22.
  • It is the responsibility of the student to discern from their current roommate(s) as to whether a space will be available in the suite or apartment.
  • Duplicate requests for the same space will be voided.
  • Ashby College (Mary Foust), Strong College (Guilford) and Lloyd International Honors College (Gray and North/South Spencer) must complete the Housing Contract Renewal. Those room assignments will be made by the Residential College, including keeping current assignments.

Feb. 26, 2021

PRIORITY Returner Applicants Email Sent
  • Students who completed the PRIORITY Returner Application will receive an email with their randomly selected priority times that will be used during the priority self-assign process. This priority time will be used in the Group Assignment Process and the Individual Self-Assignment Process
  • In the group process, the lowest priority time in a group of 2, 3, or 4 students will be used in prioritizing the self-assignment.
  • In the individual process, the priority time and class standing (freshman, then sophomores, then juniors, then seniors) will be used in prioritizing the individual self-assignment.

Mar. 2, 2021

Priority Returner GROUP OF 4 and 3 Self Assign opens
  • Students who completed the returner priority application and have a group of 4 or 3 can select one student in the group to log into ARTEMIS and assign the group based on their earliest randomly selected priority time. (e.g. a group of 4 students trying to sign up for a Spring Garden apartment and have times of 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. This group would have the student with the 10 a.m. time slot sign up all 4 group members for an available Spring Garden 4-bedroom apartment.)
  • Groups of 4 students will only see suites/apartments with 4 vacancies.
  • Quad Double-Doubles will be set up so that 4 students can assign themselves to share a bathroom between the bedrooms.
  • Use the attached Group Assignment Worksheet to gather information for the person who will be doing the self-assignment for the group.

Mar. 4, 2021

Priority Returner GROUP OF 2 Self Assign opens
  • Students who completed the priority returner application and have a group of 2 can select one student in the group to log into ARTEMIS and assign the group based on their earliest randomly selected priority time. (e.g. a group of 2 students trying to sign up for a Tower Village apartment and have times of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. This group would have the student with the 10 a.m. time slot sign up both group members for an available Tower Village suite with two available rooms.)
  • Groups of 2 students will only see suites/apartments with 2 vacancies.
  • Quad Single-Singles will be set up so 2 students can assign themselves to share a bathroom between the 2 private rooms.
  • Use the attached Group Assignment Worksheet to gather information for the person who will be doing the self-assignment for the group.
  • There will be group of 2 spaces in the following traditional double residence halls: Cone, Reynolds, Ragsdale/Mendenhall, Moore/Strong, and Phillips/Hawkins.

Mar. 6-June 30, 2021

Priority Returner Self-Assign opens
  • Current residents who completed the returner priority application can log into ARTEMIS and assign themselves based on their classification and randomly selected priority time.
  • You will be able to sign up for any available space in the upperclassman halls.

Feb. 23 - May 31, 2021:

Non-Priority Deadline

Returners who complete the non-priority application between Feb. 23 and May 31 will be eligible to self-assign between March 9 and June 30.
  • Returners who did not complete the PRIORITY Returner Application by Feb. 24 can apply and be pulled into a group, but they cannot go through the priority self-assign process.
  • The Returner Application will close on May 31, 2021.
  • Students completing the Non-Priority Returner Application may begin self-assignment on March 9.
  • Any current resident who does not complete a returner application by May 31, 2021, will not be guaranteed housing.
  • A waiting list for current residents who did not apply by May 31, 2021, will open online on June 3, 2021. Students on the waiting list will only be assigned on a space available basis in late July/early August.

The 2021-22 Housing Application is available online for Current Campus Residents (Returners) from Feb. 8 - May 31, 2021.

Non-PRIORITY Processes

Mar. 9-June 30, 2021

Non-priority Self-Assignment
  • Returners who applied AFTER Feb. 22 and new students not currently living on campus during Spring 2021 will begin to log into ARTEMIS and assign themselves.
  • Returners who apply after May 31 will be placed on a Waiting List and will not be guaranteed housing for 2021-2022.

March 31-June 30, 2021

Room Change Re-Assignment

Once you have selected a space, you have the option to log into ARTEMIS and select another space before releasing your current assignment.
  • Once you have completed the room change by clicking "Finish" your old space will become available to all other currently unassigned students.
  • You will have until June 30 to Room Change Re-Assign yourself. After that, your assignment can't be changed.

May 31, 2021

Returner Application closes

  • Returners who apply after May 31 will be placed on a Waiting List and will not be guaranteed housing for 2021-2022.
  • A waiting list for current residents who did not apply by May 31, 2021, will open online on June 3, 2021. Students on the waiting list will only be assigned on a space-available basis in late July/early August.

June 30, 2021

Self-Assignment and Room Change Re-Assignment ends June 30, 2021.

  • Current residents can self-assign and Room Change Re-Assign to any available room after March 31 and until June 30.
  • Once you have Room Change Re-Assigned, the room you were in will become available to all other currently unassigned students.
  • You will have until June 30 to self-assign or Room Change Re-Assign. After June 30 you will be assigned by Housing Staff.

New applicants are those who will be new first-year students (freshmen) in the upcoming semester. New Applicants should ultimately be concerned with meeting the Guaranteed Housing Deadline. However, it is always best to get your application completed as early as possible. You will have the best chance of being assigned to a residence hall you prefer the earlier you complete the housing application. All who apply by May 31, 2021, will be guaranteed housing on campus.

Feb. 15-May 31, 2021

The housing application and pre-payment can be made using ARTEMIS, the all-access housing portal.

VIDEO: How to "Self-Assign" to a Room

New freshmen are assigned in waves, as follows:
  • 1st Wave Self-Assign: March 12
    New Freshmen who apply on or before March 10, 2021, will receive an email by 4 p.m. on March 11 with their Self-Assign Start Time on March 12.
  • 2nd Wave Self-Assign: April 15
    New Freshmen who apply on or before April 13, 2021, will receive an email by 4 p.m. on April 14 with their Self-Assign Start Time on April 15.
  • 3rd Wave Self-Assign: May 14
    New Freshmen who apply on or before May 12, 2021, will receive an email by 4 p.m. on May 13 with their Self-Assign Start Time on May 14.
  • 4th Wave Self-Assign: June 15
    New Freshmen who apply on or before June 13, 2021, will receive an email by 4 p.m. on June 14 with their Self-Assign Start Time on June 15.
Basically, any UNCG student who does not live on campus in Spring 2021, but who is not a new freshman, falls in this category. Upperclass Non-Residents (SO, JR, SR, GRAD) and New Transfer Students can sign up for housing for the 2021-22 year by applying and selecting a space on campus. You will have the best chance of assigning yourself to a room (self-assigning) the earlier you complete the application and make the $200 pre-payment.


Feb. 15-May 31, 2021

2021-22 Housing Application period for Upperclass Non-Residents (SO, JR, SR, GRAD) and New Transfer Students can sign up for housing for the 2021-22 year. All who apply by May 31, 2021, will be guaranteed housing on campus.

March 9-June 30, 2021

Self-Assignment Available Upperclass Non-Residents and New Transfer students can log into ARTEMIS and assign themselves to a room.
  • You can self-assign to any available room after March 9 and until June 30.
  • You can Room Change Re-Assign to any available room beginning March 31 and until June 30.
  • Once you have Room Change Re-Assigned, the room you were in will become available to all other currently unassigned students.
  • You will have until June 30 to self-assign. After June 30 you will be assigned by Housing Staff.

May 31, 2021

New, First-Year Application closes
  • New Transfers and Upperclassmen non-residents who apply after May 31 will be placed on a Waiting List and will not be guaranteed housing for 2021-2022.
  • A waiting list for current residents who did not apply by May 31, 2021, will open online on June 1, 2021. Students on the waiting list will only be assigned on a space-available basis in late July/early August.

June 30, 2021

Self-Assignment and Room Change Re-Assignment ends June 30, 2021
  • Current residents can self-assign to any available room after March 9 and until June 30.
  • Once you have selected a space, you can Room Change Re-assigned to a new available space, the room you were in will become available to all other currently unassigned students.
  • You will have until June 30 to self-assign and Room Change Re-Assign. After June 30, you will be assigned by Housing Staff.

Summer 2021

  • Updated! For students currently living in Lee, Lofts on Lee, and Union or students who will be living in Lee, Lofts on Lee and Union Residence Halls in Fall 2021: We will make every effort to keep you/get you into your assigned room to minimize the number of moves you must make. To do this, you will need to apply for Summer Housing by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2021.
  • For all other students: To guarantee summer housing you will need to complete a housing application by 4 p.m. on April 23, 2021. Students who cancel their summer housing after April 30, 2021, will be charged a $200 cancellation fee. You may cancel your Summer Housing in Artemis.
  • For students who complete the summer application by April 23, an email will be sent on April 26 with detailed information about check-in and picking up their key.
  • Please note: Any students who apply for Summer Session Housing after April 23, 2021, will be housed on a space-available basis only.
  • Beginning May 5, you will need to come to the HRL office to apply for Summer Session 1.
  • If you are applying for Summer Session 2 ONLY, you will be able to apply for Summer Session 2 ONLY in Artemis. beginning May 18, 2021.
  • Students registered for UNCG Summer School will be housed in Lee, or Union Residence Halls in Spartan Village, or Lofts on Lee (ONLY available to current Spring 2021 Lofts on Lee residents).
  • Summer School housing is $919.00 per session and $1,838.00 for both sessions. Housing charges will be placed on your UNCG Student Account similar to how they were for the 2020-2021 Academic Year. Students pay housing, meal and tuition/fees to the UNCG Cashier's Office.
    • Summer Session I is $919 and runs from May 11-June 16.
    • Summer Session II is $919 and runs from June 17-July 23.
    • For both sessions, the cost is $1836 and runs from May 11-July 23.
  • Break Housing: Students with Fall 2021 assignments, who need housing between the end of Summer Session II and the beginning of the Fall 2021 semester can request break housing and will be charged a a break housing fee of $350. The Summer Break Housing fee will be placed on the student account after September 1, 2021.
  • Summer Financial Aid: Please visit Summer Financial Aid.
  • Current UNCG students who are not attending summer school may stay in Lee or Union Residence Halls in Spartan Village, or Lofts on Lee (ONLY available to current Spring 2021 Lofts on Lee residents) by paying Housing and Residence Life directly. After you have completed the application in Artemis, you will log back into Artemis and click on the "Summer Housing" button again to make your payment by debit/credit card. The summer payment went live at noon on Monday, March 15, 2021.
    1. The payment for one summer session term is $919.00 is due by April 30, 2021.
    2. The payment for the second summer session term is $919.00 and will be due by June 1, 2021.
    3. If you are signing up for both terms you can pay all on April 30 or pay for individual sessions on April 30 and June 1, respectively.
    4. Payment can also be made by check or money order at Housing and Residence Life.
Current summer session students with Fall 2021 assignments, who need housing between the end of Summer Session II and the beginning of the Fall 2021 semester, will have the opportunity to sign up for break housing after July 7 in ARTEMIS and will be charged a break housing fee of $350. The Summer Break Housing fee will be placed on the student account after September 1, 2021.
  • Current UNCG students residing on campus for Spring 2021, will stay in their current Spring 2021 assignment and move to their Summer 2021 assignment beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 14.
  • The Summer 2021 room key will need to be picked up by 4 p.m. on May 14, and the move to the Summer 2021 assignment completed with the return of the Spring 2021 room key to the Housing Office in Ragsdale/Mendenhall by 4 p.m. Saturday, May 15.
  • UNCG Summer Session Students NOT currently living on campus for Spring 2021, will be able to check in at Haywood Hall Desk on Tuesday, May 11 beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m.
  • After 4 p.m., students will need to check in at the Housing Office in Ragsdale/Mendenhall during regular office hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.
  • Students assigned to the same room for Spring 2021 and Summer 2021 will be automatically checked in for Summer 2021 the first time they use their Spartan Card after May 8.

Spring 2021

Housing Application Deadlines

There are two important deadlines to know when you apply for Spring 2021:

  1. Oct. 15 – Nov. 15, 2020: PRIORITY Spring 2021 Application (with $200 Prepayment)

    Priority Spring 2021 applicants will receive an email notification of their assignments for Spring 2021 by December 23, 2020. If you do not want to make the $200 prepayment, you can apply beginning November 17 at 10 a.m. and be guaranteed housing without having to pay the $200 prepayment.

  2. Nov. 17 – Jan. 3, 2021: NON-PRIORITY Spring 2021 Application (No Prepayment Required)

    To complete your Non-Priority Spring 2021 application and be GUARANTEED HOUSING for Spring 2021, you must apply for housing by 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 3, 2021. Non-Priority Spring 2021 applicants will be assigned January 4-7, 2021.
