Your Check In Options!
Fall 2024 has several options for Check in to accommodate all students. Pick the path that best suits you!
Stop, Drop, & Roll (SDR)
Sign up for a time slot to move in your items to your room and get your room key but do not occupy your space. This can be combined with all other options.
Early Arrival
Check in (and/or get access to your hall if have already done SDR) and occupy your room early for an additional fee. *See schedule below for early arrival dates.
Move In
Old school/traditional Move In: Check in to your room (and/get access to your hall if you complete SDR), receive your key and move in your items!
Late Arrival
For students who are unable to do Stop, Drop and Roll, Early Arrival or Traditional Move In. You must notify housing of your late arrival.

Stop, Drop And Roll
Stop, Drop, and Roll is an optional part of move in that allows you to sign up for a time slot to drop off items in your room and set up for the fall semester, but you will not stay on campus. We strongly recommend you take advantage of Stop, Drop, and Roll if you are able to do so, as there will be limited parking in and around the halls during traditional move-in beginning on August 14.

Halls Not in Stop, Drop and Roll
Lee, Lexington, Haywood: These halls are currently being used for summer housing purposes. Students may participate in early arrival at no additional cost. If you are in Lee, Lexington or Haywood you do not need to sign up for early arrival and can come to campus on August 8,9,12,13 at no additional cost. THERE WILL BE NO CHECK INS OR KEYS ISSUED ON AUGUST 10 OR AUGUST 11. Check in for August 8 will be in Haywood.
Phillips-Hawkins: As we continue to offer room changes to those assigned to Phillips Hawkins we are not offering Stop, Drop and Roll for this building. Students may participate in early arrival at no additional cost. If you are in Phillips- Hawkins you do not need to sign up for early arrival and can come to campus on August 8,9,12,13 at no additional cost. THERE WILL BE NO CHECK INS OR KEYS ISSUED ON AUGUST 10 OR AUGUST 11.
Temporary Rooms: Students in temporary rooms will not be able to sign up for an SDR time slot.
You will receive an iSpartan email by July 7th, with detailed instructions and a link on how to sign up for a time slot for Stop, Drop, and Roll.

Please Note that you will need to receive your Spartan Card to participate in Stop, Drop, and Roll. Students who submit their picture to the Spartan Card Center by July 15, will get their Spartan card where they get their key. If you do not submit a picture, will need to visit the Spartan Card Center during operational hours Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. AVERAGE WAITING TIME IN LINE IS 20-50 MINUTES.
- Have conversations with your roommate(s) prior to arrival, to minimize purchasing or bringing duplicate items.
- Check out the What to Pack and What Not to Pack List.
- Make a plan to receive your Spartan Card prior to or at your arrival to campus.
- Residents should bring their own handtrucks, carts, and other assistive devices to aid in the move-in process, if possible.
- Keep checking your email for more information regarding parking and where to check in.
Please report to your designated Check in location during your time slot. A detailed email will be sent to you regarding where to report.You will need your id readily available to receive your key.
- Check in at your designated area.
- All residents will receive their room key when they arrive.
- New students will receive their UNCG ID card (Information on getting your Spartan Card will be emailed to your “@uncg.edu” email address).
- Returning students should already have their Spartan ID and should bring it with them when they arrive to campus.
- A limited number of carts will be available, and can be checked out during this time.
- Please pay attention to the clock as you unload your belongings and move into your room. We ask that you adhere to the time slot you have signed up for.
- If you see any maintenance concerns, please submit a Fixt Request.
- Once your time period has ended, you will need to leave the residence hall. No one may spend the night in any residence hall during Stop, Drop, and Roll.
- After you have dropped off items, please proceed directly to your parking space and leave the parking lot as quickly as possible. Residents in the subsequent time slot will need to park in those spaces.
Residents will not need to check in again when they return to campus for Move In.
You must first check in at your designated location and then you can proceed to unload at your residence hall.
Only one vehicle, per resident should be in the unloading zones in front of the buildings. Vehicles parked in fire lanes, or other areas not designated for parking will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

- How much time do I have at SDR?
- Students have an hour reserved in the unloading zone in front of their residence halls. After this hour students must move their car.
- Can I stay after the hour I reserved for SDR?
- Yes, you must move your car from the unloading zone but will have access to the hall until 5pm.
- If I have more than one car, what do I do?
- You can have one car in the unloading zone at a time. The other cars can wait in one of the parking lots listed on the Fall Check In website.Students can move the parking permit to whichever car is in the unloading zone.
- I’m in a double room, which side of the room is mine?
- We recommend you talking with your roommate to decide but you are welcome to choose either side of the room.
- Can I have someone else pick up my key, like my parents if I am not able to make it?
- Yes, email [email protected] to make the request and be prepared to provide a photo id of the person picking up your key.
- Can I sign up for more than one day?
- No, you are only able to sign up for one time slot.
- Will there be volunteers to help move my stuff?
- No, but there will be volunteers to check out moving bins and monitor parking and provide directions.
- Can I sign up for stop drop and roll and early arrival?
- Yes, but early arrival will have a has a fee associated with it. See the early arrival information below.
Traditional Move IN
Move In is when students are able to move in to their spaces and stay for the Fall semester. Students are assigned a suggested Move In Day to help mitigate traffic and wait times.
If you attended Stop, Drop and Roll, most or all of your belongings should be in your room already. In this case all you will need to do is bring any last minute items and move into your Residence Hall for the fall. You will have already received your room key and will be able to proceed to your room without checking in again.

If you arrive after 5:00pm you will need to contact the Resident Advisor on duty for your hall to check in. The On-Duty number will be listed at each check in location.
We encourage you to attend your assigned Move In Day as we will have readily available staff to assist in your check in. If you must come on another day, anticipate heightened wait times for Check-In. If you are able to, we suggest signing up for Stop, Drop, and Roll to move items in prior to Move In. You will not sign up for specific times.

Spartan Card Information
Students need a Spartan Card in order to receive access to their hall. Students who submit their picture to the Spartan Card Center by July 15, will get their Spartan card where they get their key. If you did not submit a picture by July 15, you will need to visit the Spartan Card Center during operational hours Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Average wait time is typically 20-50 minutes.

The parking areas that were open during Stop, Drop, and Roll will no longer be available. All residents and guests returning to campus must follow all parking regulations, and may only stop, unload, and/or park in approved locations. Residents with valid 2024-2025 UNCG Parking permits may park in those designated areas according to your permit. Please contact the Parking Operations and Campus Access Management office with any questions.

Additional Parking Lots and Parking Information
Additional vehicles can be parked in Lot 1S (Behind Jefferson Suites), Lot 9 (Behind the Baseball Stadium) , or the McIver/Oakland Parking Decks. Vehicles parked in fire lanes, or other areas not designated for parking will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

Please Note: During Move In, you will only be allowed to have 1 car near your building at a time.
Early Arrival
The “Fall 2024 Early Arrival Form” will be available in ARTEMIS beginning in July. Early arrival charges are traditionally* as follows and will be placed on your student account in September:
- Friday August 9 before Move In from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., for an additional $100
- Monday August 12 before Move In from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., for an additional $50
- Tuesday August 13 before Move In from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., for an additional $50
Early Arrival Check In
Early arrivals must come to the Office of Housing and Residence Life in Ragsdale/Mendenhall between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to check-in and receive keys. There will be no check-in on the weekend (Saturday & Sunday), so please plan accordingly.
THURSDAY AUGUST 8 FOR LEXINGTON, HAYWOOD AND LEE ONLY: Check in will be in Haywood Hall from 8:30-4:30.
If you participated in Stop, Drop and Roll and filled out the Early Arrival Form, you can proceed directly to your room and do not need to check in.
Late Arrivals
If you are planning to arrive after 5 p.m. on August 20, you will be considered a late arrival. You must send an email to [email protected] to hold your assignment after the check-in deadline, otherwise your housing assignment could be changed or canceled per the housing contract.
