What’s important to you? Is it location, building amenities, bathroom privacy, atmosphere, or being with students who share a common interest? Having an idea of what makes you feel at home is an important first step in finding the right living situation.
Types of Residence Halls
UNCG offers traditional-, suite-, and apartment-style residence halls designed to meet your needs. Each style offers specific amenities that benefit students as they progress through UNCG.
Traditional Residence Halls- Typically First Year Students
Perfect for new, first-year students to make connections with other freshmen who are just embarking on their college career, traditional-style housing is also the most affordable of all of the housing options. The building layouts offer double-occupancy rooms located on both sides of a corridor with community bathrooms that serve the floor. It’s the best place to live to meet new friends.
Suites –For Upperclass Residents
As students become familiar with college life, they begin to prefer more spacious, contemporary accommodations and more privacy. They still require easy access to campus services, the support of staff and the security campus housing provides. Although suites vary in their specific amenities, residents enjoy semi-private bathrooms, beautiful common areas, and outstanding amenities. Looking for outstanding amenities? The suites have them. Upgrades are everywhere you look.
Apartments – For Upperclass & Graduate Residents
The apartments offer the independence that upperclassmen generally prefer, along with the benefits and convenience that come with living on campus. Students have the opportunity to easily join in UNCG activities or to step away to enjoy their privacy. Apartment residents pay only for August-May on their university accounts. They can also stay for holidays, and fall and spring semester breaks.
Residence Halls By Location
There are five distinct areas where the residence halls are located, each with benefits based on proximity to different parts of campus. Take a look below to see which area fits your needs. The individual residence halls in each area are also listed.
Cone, Grogan, and Reynolds make up a cluster of residence halls known as the “high rises.” The location of these halls provides easy access to walking trails through the wooded areas of campus, as well as to College Avenue and the Gray Drive, where all of the other traditional residence halls are located.
Guilford, Mary Foust and the Spencers Community (North and South Spencer) are centrally located on “College Avenue,” an expansive pedestrian walkway that runs from North Drive to Spring Garden Street. Academic buildings, university dining, the Elliott University Center and the Jackson Library are all a short walk away.
The traditional residence halls along Gray Drive are located closest to West Market Street on the north side of campus, with easy access to both the walking trails and the athletic fields. The individual buildings along Gray Drive are identified with two names, one refers to the left side and the other, the right side of one combined building.
Moore/Strong | Phillips/Hawkins | Quad | Ragsdale/Mendenhall | Weil/Winfield
A cluster of suite- and apartment-style housing, predominantly for upperclassmen, is located close to the intersection of Spring Garden and Josephine Boyd streets. Residents are a short walk from Yum Yum’s ice cream, multiple restaurants and pharmacies. With ample parking, this location offers the independence that upperclassmen generally prefer, along with the benefits and convenience that come with living on campus.
The six residence halls of Spartan Village are located adjacent to Gate City Blvd. Residents can take a short ride to central campus on the Spartan Village Express, stroll under the new Gate City Blvd. pedestrian underpass, or easily walk to get to the many retail areas on Tate Street. Students on Gate City Blvd. have the opportunity to easily join in UNCG activities or to step away to enjoy their privacy.
